Happy New Year!
As 2017 draws to a close I, like many, tend to look back and reflect on the year that’s heading out the door and also look forward to welcoming the new year and all the hope, vision and energy that seems to come with it.
2017 was an interesting year for me, personally, we made a decision back in 2016 that we would relocate from the UK to Denmark and in March, that became a reality. So the first half of the year was spent packing, saying goodbyes and then unpacking and saying hellos (or rather, ‘hej!’). The second half of the year I have been focussing on looking forward in terms of what the future might hold for both me personally in my new home country but also for my business as a creative and photographer. I have spent a lot of time thinking and scheming about where I want to take my business, having had the opportunity to reinvent myself once again.
So 2017 was rather positive, in many ways, I have started a new adventure with my wonderful family, have made new friends and spent more time with my in-law family. I have also started to learn Danish, which has been the biggest but most rewarding challenge of my life in recent years (aside from raising my two crazy little ones, of course!)
And now 2018 is knocking. I have some big ideas for this year and the next few years including really working to introduce my photography business to Denmark, grow that business into other media on top of photography and continue to grow an online community through the amazing world of social media. I also want to master (or at least begin to master) the Danish language and continue to really integrate here and meet new people. There might also be a theatrical project lurking somewhere in the back of my brain.
Speaking of my brain, sometimes (always) I am guilty of having so many plans/ideas/dreams that it’s hard to distinguish one from the other or know where to start. I don’t think my phone helps with that; ever since smart phones came into my life, I don’t have a paper diary any more (I have tried to go back to paper and always end up putting things in my phone again). The great thing about a paper diary, or even a simple notebook, is that you can jot down those ideas and start to expand on them and work out what will work/is a non-starter and manage priorities… So my new year’s resolution this year is to carry a notebook with me, and to actually use it!
My good friend and endless source of inspiration Nicky Raby talks a lot about writing down goals and ideas and I really think this will be a key part of my 2018. Nicky is a qualified (and excellent) life coach as well as a professional actor, writer, speaker and mother, to name just a few of her skills. Check out her website or connect with her on Instagram.
Finally, I wish all of my family, friends (new & old, near & far) and readers a very Happy New Year and I wish you all a very healthy, happy and successful 2018 and beyond.
See you next year!
